Guest Post: 1 Ingredient, 5 Ways: Romanesco by Elenore of Earthsprout

I met today’s guest Elenore over Instagram. She started leaving the sweetest messages on my photos…which made me super happy. Because she didn’t know was that I was a super-fan of hers already! This girl oozes happiness and really makes you believe anything is possible. Really. There is something about her that feels so genuine and authentic that you want to book the next flight to Sweden and dance with her in her garden (she does this) and then share a meal with her with her model-looking baby Caspian and husband (she has those). She’s a true free-spirit and the real deal. I couldn’t wait for her to share her happiness and recipes here. Thanks Elenore!
Here’s Elenore from Earthsprout:
A love letter from me to Romanesco,
I pass you at the market and have to stop and stare – hope you don’t mind – you are just so mind-bogglingly beautiful and you radiate such a confidence. I can’t say anything else apart from that I’m hooked. Romenesco, I want to dive into your world, I want to know your secrets, I want to travel into all your twists and turns and learn about your adventures. I want to be more like you! Bold, non-apologetic, creative, glowing. A natural. No doubt you are the Lady Gaga of veggies and I simply have to take you home, may I? May I show you to little Caspian and let him see the miracles that exist on this earth? May I let him explore the gorgeousness of you so that he knows that All Is Possible. I think you’d approve, he’s such a cutie. I’ll also make you this promise if you let me take you home; when you dance upon my tastebuds, I’ll be completely aware of the bursts of flavors you give and the healing effects you have upon me. And later on this year I’ll find the greatest of organic romanesco seeds, sow them, care for the plants and let you show off to the world even more! We are so darn lucky to have you! …Now Romanesco, would you consider coming home with me?”
Apart from the obvious sensational outer appearance of the Romanesco, it’s amazingness continues all the way to it’s core and the health benefits that it provides are just incredible. I suppose you’ve heard of the family that Romanesco is part of – the Brassicas / Cruciferous vegetables. It’s safe to say that we ought to invite some more brassica-ness into our lives and what better way to do that then with this delicious, sexy thing that you see up there?! Plants of the family Brassicaceae are widely known for the cancer protection properties that it provides, it’s generous fiber content and it’s powerful antioxidants. Conclusion: bring a hot’n healthy Romanesco with you home asap (I promise, it won’t be a Bad Romance;) revel in it’s beauty, love it and then cook with it gently to keep it’s Lady Gaga’ness (and honor) intact. And of course tag your adventures in cooking (and gardening!) with a little #earthsprout so we can see it and spread it further! More bold, bountiful beauty for everyone!
With all Greenylicous love,
Elenore
