Babes in Plantland: Adina Grigore

My sister Alissa is always lurking on the web for new plant-based/natural products. So when she came across S.W. Basics of Brooklyn (formerly Sprout Wellness), she was pretty pumped and sent me a link. I fell in love and ordered a bunch. One of the coolest things about this line of all-natural skin products is that there are no more than 5 ingredients in anything they make. FIVE. And they’re all ingredients you’ll recognize (olive oil, rosewater, oat flour, shredded coconut), all displayed on well-designed labels. But the coolest thing about S.W. Basics is actually the maker herself, Adina Grigore.
After telling everyone I knew about her products, I wanted to know more about Adina, so I interviewed her for So, How Was Your Day?. I found out that she’s really smart, super business-savvy, and seriously hates cilantro. We became email buds, and I finally got to meet her and her beau/business partner, Adam, in California last month. The love that they have for their brand is really inspiring. Their products are legit (they even have big-celeb fans). And everything they make is completely plant-based. We think that makes Adina Grigore one pretty sweet Babe In Plantland.
Name: Adina Grigore
Sign: Leo
Relationship Status (with plants): I’m the girl asking for an open relationship when I know we should just get married.
Turn ons: Comfort foods with healthy tweaks. Especially barbecue. And baked goods.
Turn offs: Nasty foods pretending to be healthy. Healthy meals with no flavor.
Crunchy or smooth? Crunchy crunchy crunchy.
A quote that inspires you: It’s a little dark, but I think about it almost every day: “We must commit ourselves absolutely and unequivocally to shaking ourselves and everyone around us awake.” -John Perkins, Confessions of an Economic Hitman
Favorite way to eat your greens: Steamed with a drizzle of tamari and balsamic vinegar or raw and massaged with dressing. Saucy.
Your best natural skincare tip: You don’t need 90% of what you’re using on your skin.
What restaurants would you planticize (offer plant-based dishes): Sushi! Never enough awesome veggie options.
Dish you dream about: Salad pizza.
Fill in the blank: Plants make me… way more sane about living in a crazily unhealthy world.
Check out Adina’s line, S.W. Basics of Brooklyn. It’s ok if you want to buy everything.
