I’ve been obsessing a lately about changing up my skincare game to a more natural one. Now that I’m putting good stuff into my body, I really want to start putting good stuff onto my body too. So I was really excited when a friend told me about Indie Lee’s skincare line. I figured it would be great, but what I wasn’t expecting is how cool it would look! It is truly one of the most well-designed skincare lines out there, and not just in the natural category…but ALL skincare. Natural skincare packaging has come a long way since Papyrus fonts and stock images of eucalyptus leaves, and Indie Lee is the greatest example.
But it’s not just the packaging and the beautiful products that have me hooked, Indie Lee’s personal story and journey of starting her line is truly inspirational. After surviving a life-threating brain tumor (which she believes was likely caused by environmental toxins), she decided to dedicate herself to developing an all natural skincare line – one that was free of all toxins, chemicals, and animal testing. She launched her line in 2010, and it’s now carried in Henri Bendel and other stores across the country.
I’m so, so excited to have Indie Lee as the newest Babe In Plantland!
Here’s more from Indie…
Name: Indie Lee
Sign: I am the quintessential Libra.
Relationship Status (with plants): Totally devoted.
Turn ons: I’m a sucker for a little sweetness, so honey is always at the top of my list. Whether I am drizzling it over some crisp apples or using it as an ingredient in one my favorite DIY face masks, this antibacterial and antisepctic super food really is the bee’s knees.
Turn offs: Juices that contain 0% fruit juice. There are so many healthy and powerful ingredients and flavor combinations, it is heartbreaking that so many people don’t realize that they aren’t even consuming any of them. To me, beauty is an inside job as much as it is an outside job!
Crunchy or smooth? Smooth!
Scent that gets an automatic smile: Bright and cheery natural scents, like lemongrass, always bring a big grin to my face. I’m such a fan of the smell that I recently used it to launch a Lemongrass Citrus Body Wash and Lemongrass Calendula Body Lotion. I use them every morning to wake up and start the day with my best foot forward…the natural aroma isn’t overpowering nor does it have too much of a fragrance.
Scent that automatically gets a side eye: Overly strong, artificial fragrances. Just getting a whiff of one of these synthetic fragrances is enough to have me feeling the start of a migraine. Not to mention, the FDA doesn’t require products like fragrance to list ingredients…so you never know what you’re truly smelling and how it could potentially hurt you. For me, things like artificial smells not only get a side glance, they empower me to further educate others on the potential risks beyond just the terrible smell!
Your #1 tip to someone trying to go more natural with their skincare: My mindset is that it’s just as important to take the time to understand the natural benefits of each of the products, making your own educated decisions based on what works for you before purchasing. For me, educating someone new on why they should be using a natural product is just as important as selling an actual product!
Don’t feel you have to completely overhaul your beauty routine all at once! I recommend starting small with a multi-function facial moisturizer (and shamelessly, my Squalane Facial Cream is clearly my top pick!). Not only is moisturizer a product that you’re probably already familiar with, it is used twice daily all over the face and neck, giving the natural effects more real estate than, let’s say, an eye balm or makeup product would. Once you are hooked on the benefits of that, then you can replace additional items as they run out…like toner or facial serum.
Quote that inspires you: “Happiness is living for something bigger than yourself.” I have a lot of quotes that I live by, which I like to call “Indieisms”, and I try to use that one as my daily mantra.
Brand that you want to planticize (offer more natural products): I don’t have a specific brand in mind, but I would love to see the fragrance industry as a whole embrace true nature.
Fill in the blank. Using more plants in my life has…awoken me to my true joy and mission. After I awoke from brain surgery with a new lease on how to live, I really found comfort and refuge in my greenhouse. I honestly feel that plants have played a huge part in restoring my health and offering me the opportunity to talk about my passions on a daily basis!
