Episode 29: Battling Anxiety + A Starter Guide To Meditation With Eva Daiberl

I’ll have to admit that I was a little intimidated when I first met Eva Daiberl. She seemed kind of perfect to me. She’s good at everything she does (she’s a trained pastry chef, photographer, and DIY master). She’s traveled the world. And a stroll through her closet rivals any trip to Barneys. But the more I got to know her, I found out that Eva she wasn’t so intimidating after all. She deals with personal shit just like the rest of us and is one of the most compassionate people I’ve met because of it.
In this interview, Eva and I discuss her battle with anxiety, the judgement she felt from others after her diagnosis, and how meditation has changed her life and helped manage her symptoms. She’s an incredible woman and I’m excited for you to hear this episode.

April 25, 2015A lot of what Eva said in this podcast resonated with me. For my entire life, but especially the past six years, I have struggled with anxiety and depression. My struggle felt like what Eva described: tense, awful feelings the moment you wake up; the inability to get outside of your head; the long, deep spiral of depression.
Step 1 was acknowledging I had an issue, step 2 was finding an amazing therapist that I saw for four years and still think about, and the last step was taking Lexapro after years of saying that I did not want to take (aka become reliant on) medication.
I know Eva was sharing her own experiences and opinions but it stung when she called medication a crutch. Oof. For me, medication made me the person that I always should have been. It cleared away all of the clutter and doubt, and allowed my true personality to shine through.
I’m in the process of going off medication (for a variety of reasons) but I think it is important to note that the right medication coupled with the right therapies can be life changing for people.
Thank you, Jessica, for putting out this kick ass podcast and thank you, Eva, for sharing your story.

April 27, 2015Abby, thanks so much for sharing your experience with anxiety too. And I think medication is different for everyone. But I for sure think that medicine did help Eva. Again, thanks so much for sharing your story here too. Will help other people that deal with anxiety so much. Thanks.
