Episode 103: Brain Health + Alzheimer’s Prevention + Eating For Cognitive Power With Dr. Lisa Mosconi

This week we’re talking to Dr. Lisa Mosconi. Lisa is the Associate Director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC)/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Before that she founded and was the director of the Nutrition & Brain Fitness Lab at New York University School of Medicine (NYU). Lisa holds a PhD degree in Neuroscience & Nuclear Medicine, and is a certified Integrative Nutritionist and holistic healthcare practitioner. She’s also the author of the new book, Brain Food: The Surprising Of Eating For Cognitive Power.
Lisa and I discuss the importance of water (in relationship to our brain health), glucose vs. sucrose, Alzheimer’s prevention, the Keto diet, and how genes are not our destiny.

April 7, 2018This was such a great episode! Thank you for bringing the topic of brain health to the OPP community. As a therapist *and* as someone’s whose dad is suffering from Alzheimer’s, this was just the kind of information I needed to hear and look forward to sharing.
On a side note, I’ve noticed lately you’ve been (frequently?) mentioning receiving negative feedback on various topics related to your podcast (music, content, guests, etc.). I hope you don’t let that energy weigh too heavily on your heart. I’ve been a loyal listener for over a year, and have sent several of my friends and clients your way – and lately I’ve felt the need to share that you have a big fan club out here in California (even if we don’t take the time to write you and tell you!). I am so grateful for your service, your POV, your grit and generally sharing really great/interesting info intended to support healthy living. You’re a blessing, Jessica!!

April 9, 2018Thank you for the sweet note. I’m not letting it weigh on me (and promise not to share anymore!). I just wanted people to know that that I see these things and me and the guests are actual human beings that read the comments!
Most importantly, I’m sorry to hear about your dad and sending you and him a lot of love.

April 26, 2018Hi!
Loved this episode (and all the episodes really…along with the music haha)
But Dr. Mosconi mentions our brain cells don’t regenerate but I thought that has been proving that’s not the case. I thought I had read articles that neurogenesis is possible.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

April 22, 2019Just listened to this episode. I discovered Dr. Mosconi on Instagram about 6 months ago and have been obsessed with her book. I study it like scripture and just like you, take lots of notes. I’ve listened to several podcast with her and you absolutely asked the best questions. I will be subscribing to your podcast.
P.s. I loved your intro music. 🙂
