I hope you like flowers, because I couldn’t control myself and included lots of gorgeous floral shots from Kelly Marie Thompson’s friggin’ beautiful For Reals Meals brunch. This one was a long-time coming. When Kelly attended the polar-vortex FRM this winter, she asked if she could host in the summer, and I immediately said yes. A) Because she said she had a backyard. B) I’m obsessed with her company, Fleur. And C) She is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The. Nicest.
I gave Kelly the drill: invite a handful of people you want to get to know better and cook a plant-based meal for them. But then I also gave her a little twist…
I wanted her to use Seven Sundays muesli in a few of her dishes. Stop. This is not a sponsored post. I just really, really have been wanting to work with Seven Sundays after spotting them at a trade show a couple years back. And I thought a brunch would be the perfect opportunity to work with them. Not to mention celebrate their Chicago debut in Whole Foods. And there was one more twist for Kelly…Hannah Barnstable (the owner of Seven Sundays) would be coming in from Minneapolis as a guest for her brunch. No pressure.
Coming up with breakfast-focused plant-based dishes can be a intimidating at first, but Kelly nailed it! She nailed her guest list too with these super inspiring women: Joline Rivera (Sweet Paul Magazine), Claire Tibbs (Humboldt House), and Monique Gilbert (Culture Collide). She even got Jaclyn Simpson to capture the day for us!
Check out Kelly’s menu:
Ginger Pear Macadamia Muesli with Almond Milk and Berries
Heirloom Tomato, Strawberry, and Arugula Salad
Tofu Scramble with Rabi, Kale, and Chickpeas
Vanilla Cherry Pecan Muesli Bars
*Plus everyone got a preview of Owen + Alchemy (the soon-to-be-open juice/plant-based hot spot)
So, the night before this insanely cool brunch I casually told my husband that I’d be busy Sunday, because I had a For Reals Meals. I stopped for a second and thought about what I said. I have a For Reals Meals. And then had to pause and let some gratitude sink in. Not in an oooohm-meditation sort of way. In a “Listen up girlfriend, you’d better recognize how far you’ve come and be grateful for this shit” sort of way. I get to eat a plant-based meals with inspiring people once a month (one that I don’t even have to cook!) and document it. Pretty incredible, right?
I think when things get wild and stressful in your head (for me it’s been an adoption and a new site design), all the stress can clog up your brain. And then the good stuff has a hard time finding its way in. Looking at these photos and remembering just how delicious everything was, and how much I learned and laughed with Kelly’s guests is a true “LISTEN UP” moment. So this week, I’ll be working on being more grateful for what I do have and not what I don’t have (yet). Wanna join me?
Thank you Kelly, Hannah, Joline, Claire, Jaclyn, Monique, and O + A for reminding me what’s up. Such a smarty-pants group of women – I’m grateful x 100.
Next week…get Kelly’s recipe for her Vanilla Cherry Pecan Seven Sunday Bars!
What stress is clogging up your brain right now?
Close your eyes and visualize yourself grabbing it and replacing it with something that’s awesome.
It can be big or small. Maybe a new friend, your pooch, or an upcoming vacation. Anything goes.
