I am a paranoid android when it comes to my house smelling proper. I’ve spent a lot of money on candles, incense, and crazy air fresheners over the years. I even went through a phase where I tied fabric softener sheets to the vents of my air conditioner (crazy!). But with all of my attempts, nothing has ever compared to the trick my momma taught me: orange peels and cinnamon.
Since I went more natural with my diet, I have been wanting to go more natural with home care too. So this has been my new go to when I have company coming over or just want to freshen up the place. This au naturel remedy can cover up any funk, from stinky dogs to last night’s party…in minutes. And it’s way less expensive (as in $60 less) then my favorite candle.
Grab an orange (I have also used lemons in a pinch) and peel it. Fill a small pot or tea kettle with water, place in the peels and a cinnamon stick, and let it simmer. That’s it. Save the actual orange for tomorrow’s juice or eat it on the spot. Just make sure to add more water as it starts to boil down.
What is your go to for making your house smell fresh and clean?
