One Part Podcast / Episode 4: Taking Risks with Jourdan Fairchild of Fly DYI

Is it unprofessional for a host to cry when she interviews a guest? Because that’s what happened when I interviewed writer, editor, and master crafter Jourdan Fairchild. I swear Oprah teared up a few times during her years, so I’m giving myself a pass. Jourdan’s story was just so damn moving!
Jourdan and I talk about leaving a big magazine career behind after falling in love, how losing her job at Daily Candy led her to a life-changing trip to Africa, and her new book that was inspired by her experiences there.
Jourdan proves that taking a risk, no matter how scary it is, can not only change your life…but someone else’s too.

July 1, 2015Jessica! This is amazing – she was awesome. I’d love to hear a f/u interview with her. I wonder if she’s link up with Girl Rising. I recently saw that documentart at a Peace Corps talk I went a few months ago. Again thanks so much for sharing!

July 19, 2015I am so hooked on this podcast. Everything about it. And in love with each of these guests. People always talk about how important it is to tell your story. There are classes and books and tips on sharing your story and getting it out there. But “listening” never gets the same hullabaloo. Someone once told me (it was actually Murray Nossel + Paul Browde of Narativ) that every time you “listen” to another person’s story, it changes you a little bit. And every time you share your story, you change the person you shared it with. I love that sentiment a whole lot and feel so lucky to have come across this podcast because we are most definitely shaped by the stories we hear and each one of these episodes has inspired me, sparked something in my soul and touched my core. And that’s not easy to do! Thank you Jess! Sometimes it’s hard listening to these because I want to just be sitting at a table with you and the guests and be a part of it and comment and ask questions. But I have to remind myself what a gift it is also just to listen!
