Episode 27: Long-Term Relationships, Not Working For Free, And Doing What You’re Born To Do With Laura Wright Of The First Mess

This interview was a long time coming. I’ve wanted Laura Wright of The First Mess to be a guest since I started the podcast, but we held out and waited – and now it’s time. And it just happens to coincide with the reveal of a new, special something she’s been working on. Believe me, it’s a big one.
Laura and I talk her big news, learning to communicate better in long-term relationships, knowing what your audience wants, and putting your energy into projects that are truly beneficial to you (no working for free). We also talk Canada-things, like Drake and his lint rollers.

March 26, 2015I am really glad I listened to your podcast a) because Laura is awesome and b) I now have an explanation for why I want to kill people who breath loud, eat loud, fisget etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misophonia
It all makes so much sense now.

March 26, 2015Heather! Welcome fellow Misophonia-head. Man, it can be so brutal sometimes, right? Glad you could relate. Makes it feel like you aren’t crazy, knowing there are others out there. Here’s to closing our ears in the movie theater over aggressive popcorn eaters. Thanks for listening to the episode too!

March 27, 2015I think there are more of us crazy misophonia peeps than you think. Loved the pod, Laura is just great! Looking forward to the book. 🙂

March 31, 2015Hey Jessica!
I’m a new follower of yours and a first time commenter and I just wanted to say that all of your podcasts are awesome- I’m going back and listening to them all- but this one spoke to me so much. I think the subject matter, especially the long-term relationship stuff, really resonated with my situation right now: about to get married to someone who is very different from myself (in good ways, mostly!). When the differences between us arise, I find myself struggling to not be too “comfortable” in the words I choose to use with him. This is something I need to work on and knowing that you two have experienced this and have developed ways of overcoming this is awesome.
Thank you (and Laura) for the suggestions in your podcast. I will certainly be putting them to use!

August 29, 2018Hey! Just started listening to your podcast not long ago and now going back and catching up on the older episodes. Loved this one as I can totally relate to the relationship stuff. I’ve been a reader of The First Mess for years now so it was really cool to hear/learn from her!
