Things are about to get weird. You’re about to start trying things you never thought you’d try. Saying things you never thought you’d say. People are going to start talking about how you’ve changed. It will be subtle at first, but then all of a sudden, everyone is going to notice. You are going to feel so damn good that you won’t be able to stop yourself. And pretty soon, weird will become your norm.
I got weird a couple years ago. It started when a condition I have became so bad that I couldn’t get out of bed. I was depressed, exhausted, and no fun. Because of it, my work and relationships were a mess. My options to get better were crazy drugs or an even crazier surgery. But then a friend swooped in with a magic potion that none of my doctors had told me about: good food (specifically, a plant-based diet). I didn’t buy it. I wasn’t about to get all creepy and crunchy and start asking for things on the side at restaurants. But I was also desperate, so I agreed to give it a try.
After a few months, I was pain-free. But not just pain-free. I was happy and awake again. My husband told me I had my “sparkle” back. Fast forward to today. I never got the surgery, and now I’m hooked on plants for life. So hooked, that I’ve tried to learn everything I can about how food affects our lives. And I’ve realized that we’re all a little bit sick. Maybe your “sick” is killer headaches or bad skin. Maybe it’s extra weight or just feeling tired and blah. But whatever it is, there’s a good chance that thing that’s keeping you from feeling your best might be the result of the things you put on your plate. It sounds simple because it is. We can make profound changes to the way we feel by making small changes to what we put in our mouths.
