Episode 9: Being Really Good At What You Do with Max Wastler of Made Right Here

Max Wastler is my guest this week. I’ve known Max for about four years, but it wasn’t until this episode that I truly understood the passion behind the risks he’s taken and choices he’s made with his career. It made for a solid talk.
Max talks about the 33 jobs he’s had in 33 years, the origins of his hustler ways, and his mission to connect people to the makers of the products they use every day. He completely changed my perspective on the phrase “Made In America,” and I’m excited to hear what you think about this episode.

July 3, 2015This episode reminded me of a book called, Overdressed – its about the cost of fashion. It was a really eye opening book about the story “behind” the labels and what happens to clothes. For example, I grew out of several “styles” from F21(as most of the population) and decided to be “eco” and donate them to my local goodwill, only to find out that a large % of clothes aren’t put in the stores and are sent to 3rd world countries such as Africa and the leftovers are tossed in a landfill – shocking, right??!! Anyway great interview and I loved the show. i watched them all on youtube.

July 19, 2015Go Max!!! He is so fantastic and spot on. I totally believe we vote with our dollars. And always try to support the places in my hood that I want to be around. Which is really hard to do for $$ reasons but I read something funny when I was debating switching to organic milk and apples and all that jazz a few years ago. The author of the article’s approach to having to spend more on higher quality food was…..spend more, eat less.
Have you read Michael Pollan’s Food Rules. It’s a cheeky little book on simplifying our food dilemma and he says that usually when you research things the subject becomes more complicated. However when he researched food, the subject actually got a lot simpler and he narrowed it down to 3 basic rules that would really keep us out of trouble where our health and pocketbooks are concerned. And that is: Eat food. Not a lot. Mostly plants.
I think you can apply that to other stuff we buy! Buy nicer well made clothes and furniture. Not a lot of it.
Anyway, amazing episode! Can’t wait to watch his show! And cheers to having all kinds of jobs and trying new things. It all connects eventually. I love that the folks on this show are in all kinds of stages of success. It’s good to hear from people in the middle of it all. People still flushing out ideas and finding their way 🙂
