I’m so excited about OPP’s latest collaboration with Sola! Chef Carol Wallack created an entire corn-centric prix fixe menu that’ll be available all September long.
Take a look at her menu:
1st: Creamy, dreamy ginger corn soup with shallot salad and chili oil
2nd: A hearty dish of soba noodles, soy-chili tofu, and corn-edamame succotash with a lime vinaigrette
3rd: Gooey cocoa brownies with sweet corn and coconut sorbet, cocoa nibs, and a blackberry/cocoa coulis
When I went into Sola to try the menu, Chef Carol was there and talked me through each course. She’s a perfect mix of a laid back surfer girl and a tell-it-like-it-is toughie (my favorite combination). But it’s not just her wise-cracks that made me swoon, it’s her true passion and appreciation for veggies. You can taste it in each dish. She let’s the veggies do their thing and prepares them simply, without a lot of fuss. Carol is heavily influenced by the cuisine of Hawaii. And when she’s not manning the kitchen at Sola, she spends most of her time there getting inspired, surfing, and running races. Another cool fact: back in her Cali days, she was a private chef for Jack Nicholson (who I might also be in love with).
I can’t wait to go back to Sola and eat these courses all over again. And when September is over and our collaboration is done, I’ll be back for one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had. Carol let me try one while I was there, and it really was one of the best ever. Just add it to the list of reasons why Sola and Carol are my new favorite crushes.
