One Part Pledge / A Challenge By Katie Horwitch

One Part Pledge / A Challenge By Katie Horwitch

The pod is BACK, complete with a new monthly series called One Part Pledge, and I’m so excited about it! Don’t worry, if you love the original podcast, it’ll still be there. But I really think you’re going to like this new addition.

Here’s the deal:
A One Part Pledge pod will go up at the beginning of each month. My guest will share a challenge they’ve created for us. The challenge might be something big or small. It might be accomplished in a day or maybe over a whole month. It might be physical – or just a mental thing. The point is that the challenge will be designed to shake things up a little in our daily routines. And create some change in places that maybe we need it most (and might not even know it).

If you decide to take on the challenge, here are some ways to make your pledge…

1. Take the pledge and keep it to yourself. Tell no one or maybe just your best friend at dinner. Write it in your diary. Say it out loud to your bathroom mirror. Do you.

2. Take the pledge and share in the comments here. It’s a great place to talk with fellow pledgers. And also a great place to ask any questions you might have about the challenge.

3. Take the pledge and tweet it. Share on Twitter and tag it with #onepartpledge. Challenge someone else you know to take part in it. These things are always easier with friends.

4. Take the pledge and Instagram it. Take a photo of yourself holding up the OPP hand sign (it’s above) or a photo of you doing the challenge. You don’t even have to show your face. Get creative with it. And make sure to tag me, so I see you! #onepartpledge works here too.

If you miss a challenge or aren’t ready for it right now, that’s ok. This isn’t like an episode of Game of Thrones. You can miss one and still know what the hell is going on. Again, do you.

So, let’s get to it! The first One Part Pledge challenge is….

Want-Katie-Horwitch@2x

Ok. So, I’m not actually going to tell you the challenge. You have to listen to find out! But I am going to tell you who’s bringing it. This first challenge is from my girl Katie Horwitch. She’s the fitness/mind/body editor at The Chalkboard Mag, an Equinox instructor, and now the proud mama of the awesome new website WANT (Women Against Negative Talk).

She’s inspiring, thoughtful, and just so passionate about what she does. So basically the perfect first guest for this series.

I LOVED this interview, and hearing Katie’s perspective. She really pulls a lot of things together. I was right there with you when you asked the reason for complimenting others rather than ourselves… and as I continued listening and thinking, I realized that the negative thoughts I have toward others are usually rooted in self-criticism. Ie., “I can’t believe she’s not nailing this simple yoga pose” means “I’m tired and I wish I would let myself do child’s pose”. “I can’t believe she’s wearing that sleazy outfit” means “I wish I were proud and confident in the way I look.” etc. So redirecting our thoughts/reactions towards others can maybe have the eventual same effect for our self-thoughts.

Thank you so much, Laura. You hit the nail right on the head. Celebrating others = celebrating yourself. Sometimes it takes a while to get into that groove – but once you find it, man does it feel good. Thank you for listening, and for your insightful comment!

Jessica, this is an awesome new series! I’m still makingmy way through all the podcasts. I loved this interview/talk. It remind me of the skit on the Amy Schumer, where a group of girls meet up at the park and talk about how much they “hate” certain body parts – its super funny and so is the “Girl You Don’t Need Makeup” skit. Thanks again Jessica!
