March 9, 2018I tried leaving this as a comment on your Rose-Marie insta post after getting discouraged and saddened by someone else’s comment about her episode – but the ‘gram wasn’t into it and wouldn’t allow it to post. I feel pretty strongly about this and it breaks my hear to see this sort of behavior so I’m going to try to post my thoughts here:
“Still enjoying the podcast after 100 episodes – thank you for offering a forum for women/people to share their experiences. With 100 collected stories of how people navigated the challenges in their lives and found inspiration there have inevitably been SO many that have made beautiful points that i can apply to my life – and inevitably some that haven’t necessarily hit home for me. Regardless, I value their braveness in sharing and always give their story a listen. People feeling the need to label some episodes/guests as “good” of not, or “relatable” or not should consider adding the words “FOR ME” into their statements. “This guest wasn’t relatable FOR ME” THATS a completely reasonable, honest opinion statement. To say that someone’s story is flatly “unrelatable” or false in any way is to call their life experiences invalid. And to tell someone their experiences and the feelings they have in response to those experiences are not valid is one of the most reductive, hurtful things you can do. Id hope (especially as women – or heck, just HUMANS – today) we would consider reshaping the way we comment on each others’ experiences. I cannot stress enough how much notion of taking what serves me and simply leaving that which does not has helped me leave self-created negativity behind in my life. If someones material does not apply to, or serve me, I can simply leave it, but I would never say they dont deserve to have put it out there to be heard. I cannot imagine how many people out there it DID serve. I encourage everyone to keep sharing, keep listening, and to be compassionate…and if it’s not you jam, there’s a nifty “delete” option available for episodes just as accessible as the “comment” button.
