Season Finale! Episode 123: The Pill + Post-Birth Control Syndrome + Hormone Balancing with Dr. Jolene Brighten

It’s the season finale! This week, I’m talking to Dr. Jolene Brighten. Dr. Brighten is a Functional Medicine Naturopathic Doctor and the founder of Rubus Health, a women’s medicine clinic that specializes in women’s hormones. She is a recognized leader in Post-Birth Control Syndrome and the long-term side effects associated with hormonal contraceptives. Her new book, Beyond The Pill, is out now.
In this episode, Dr. Brighten and I talk about post-birth control syndrome, the mood altering and damaging effects linked to the birth control pill, fertility, and non-hormonal birth control options.

February 11, 2019Thank you SO MUCH for this episode. Truly life changing. I’ve been struggling with the most intense body reactions since going off the pill a year ago. This has brought me so much relief and hope that there is a solution. xx

March 4, 2019Thanks for all the great podcasts Jessica! This was an interesting one to listen to, and I really appreciated her thoughts on women not being taken seriously by their doctors and symptoms brushed aside as “impossible” because there are no studies. I think every woman has experienced this at some point and it’s endlessly frustrating. As a Licensed Acupuncturist I’ve had a TON of patients over the years with symptoms either when they started the pill or after stopping it, and I can tell ya, it’s a LOT more than just irregular cycles.
I do want to point out that in the show description it says Dr. Brighten is a Naturopathic MD, and feel this terminology can be a bit confusing for people. Dr Brighten is not an MD. The training is different. I’m not trying to take anything away from her, and am sure the training she went through is rigorous, but it is different from MD training.
Thanks!
